Ethics in EE

Alfredo Soeiro and Luis Adriano Oliveira

This session will be completed by a description of the group’s activities in the period 2021 to 2023 and the interventions of Profs. Fátima Monteiro (Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Coimbra) and Luis Adriano Oliveira (University of Coimbra). The format will be an exposition followed by a question session and proposals for future activities.

Gender and Diversity in EE

Rita Pereira and Cristina Borges

Gender equality and diversity accomplishment should be a goal for every individual in a modern society and not only for a restricted sphere of specialists. It is our goal to improve the network of good practices to reduce gender gap and diversity in engineering education. The workshop main objective is to explore some issues to generate ideas to future developments in gender equality and diversity in engineering education. The session will be a co-creation workshop with the goal of gathering the participants together to share ideas and speak about topics related to gender equality and diversity. In the workshop the participants will work in teams and engage in activities and generate ideas to improve the Network of Good Practices in Engineering Education.

ICT in EE

José Ribeiro da Fonseca and Gustavo R. Alves

The COVID-19 lockdown triggered a widespread interest in solutions based on non-traditional (remote and virtual) laboratories, derived from the restrictions imposed on the physical presence of teachers and students in traditional (hands-on) laboratories. Spite the repetition of the advantages associated with the complementary use of remote and virtual laboratories, alongside evidence from its regular use in distance education modalities, “the problem had to appear in order to understand the solution”. In other words, although remote and virtual laboratories have a history of more than 25 years, only more recently the discussion about its regular use in STEM education became widespread.

Given this background, we deliver a workshop where attendees will have the opportunity to use a remote laboratory, named Virtual Instrumentation Systems in Reality (VISIR), which enables doing (real) experiments with electrical and electronic circuits, supported by an enquiry-based pedagogical framework explained in the recently launched VISIR Handbook. The course will be supported by VISIR nodes installed in Portugal and Brazil, and the newest version of this remote laboratory, named HIVE, which has been developed by LabsLand®, a company devoted to the delivery and support of remote laboratories.

Challenge-based Learning: princípios e práticas no Ensino Superior
